Barnsley – Locke Park Play Area

Locke Park remaking play

This project is the first priority in a major planned programme of conservation and development which will transform the park as a public amenity and a visitor attraction.

An innovative fun world of play is envisaged where children will be able to enjoy a novel play experience in a safe location themed with train connation such as a ticket office, the sidings and turntables. This will link the heritage of the park and Joseph Locke the renowned Victorian railway engineer. Children awareness of their local heritage will therefore be raised as they play.

The play area has been designed with activities and approaches that will allow children with physical and learning disabilities to fully take part in play, increasing positive perceptions between disabled children and their non-disabled peers, as they are able to play together.
