Barracks Lane Live Fence

Barracks Lane Community Garden is a beautiful green space and eco building at the heart of a vibrant community in Oxford. It had approx. 4000 visitors last year.

Past successful applications have been to replace raised bed support posts and establish a new planting plan to encourage more local biodiversity for the benefit of the different economic and culturally diverse groups who use the garden to develop the awareness of biodiversity in East Oxford and increase their confidence of going into wild areas.

This project is to replace an old standard fence with a living fence of hazel coppiced onsite. The hazel hedge will let in more natural light to the bottom of the garden. Hazel hedges provide a habitat for many types of wildlife, including birds, insects, and small mammals and they have the added benefit of providing a sustainable source of wood.
