Barrowden and Wakerley PCC – Bell Tower Repairs – Essential Works

The Bell Chamber is subject to substantial and persistent water ingress, at
present no additional waterproofing measures are installed. The current
Victorian wooden louvres are poorly constructed with insufficient overlap
between the slats, the consequent gap allows rainwater to be driven in, these
will be replaced with new louvres and frames in seasoned English oak with bird guards and stainless steel fixings, both in the tower and the spire openings . The lower chamber floor will be strengthened with oak counterboards. Scaffolding will be erected to safely access the tower and
spire to check of the bells and frames.
