Baskerville Road Play Area Biodiversity Enhancement

The plan is to plant 5 new trees, all chosen for the benefits to bird an insect life across the season and they form part of the wider plan for the site. Volunteers have already planted 500 Crocus and Wild Daffodil bulbs and Ox Eye Daisies in the new designated no mow area, and a number of pollinator friendly shrubs. The plants and bulbs were fully funded and planted by Eco SoCo volunteers.

Currently there is only one tree in the park. Community volunteers will plant the trees and water them in the warm summer months and to this end, a series of water butts are planned as part of this project funding, sited at the nearby Scout Hut. The Scouts, Guides and Beavers are in support of the scheme and are keen to help look after the new trees.

Wooden signage made from Cedar roof shingle samples will be produced by the Village ‘Shedquarters’ volunteer group, informing park visitors of tree details, including the benefits to wildlife and people and to denote the no mow area.

This is a pilot project, before a roll out of similar work across the other parks in the village.
