The project will install solar panels to generate the electricity usage at the project site to maintain sustainability and also reduce reliance on the energy grid.
The organisation aims to promote environmental protection/improvement in all aspects of their work. Last year 12% of their income was spent on energy costs (electricity – no gas on site) at a cost of £14,509. The current system is inefficient and their EPC rating is E113. Following extensive research into varying options over the past four years working with independent energy assessors, contractors and green energy experts, they have costed a programme of works to address this issue with a view to improving their carbon profile and achieving a potential rating of A25.
As well as contributing towards the green agenda, this should also improve the comfort and efficiency of the building for the users, and result in energy savings to enable them to redirect the money on energy bills to better serve the community through project work to reach vulnerable and disadvantaged people living in the local area.
