Beacon Hill Project, Heather, Pillwort and Pools

The project focus is to enhance heah habitat for its associated secies and to ensure that bracken and inappropriate grazing to not damage this. Radnorshire Wildlife Trust would like to build on this work carried out in the first year / phase of the project, to create long term and sustainable solutions with their partners to ensure long term health of the heath is maintained through:
– reducing bracken dominance and enhancing dwarf shrub heath, facilitating bracken composting by commoners
– enhancing additional ponds for pillwort and fairy shrimp and providing a habitat for wading birds and a range of wildlife
– continue to work with commoners and other stakeholders, developing best practice grazing regimes for heathland.
