Bedfordshire Orchards – Preservation

The project will restore and conserve old / existing orchards and create new community areas in which to preserve old varieties of trees, encouraging their sustainable management for biodiversity and creating a legacy for future generations to enjoy. It will involve:

Restoring and conserving old / existing orchards and creating new areas in which to preserve old tree varieties and so improve genetic diversity (in all, 80 trees will be planted).
Managing the grassland underneath the trees for biodiversity.
Providing local volunteers and landowners with training, tools and support to preserve these orchards.
