Bedfordshire Otters and Rivers Project – 2004 to 2007

A three year biodiversity project aiming to conserve rivers within Bedfordshire using the Otter as the ‘flagship’ key species. The project will include practical riverine habitat improvements, a key species survey and monitoring, and raising community awareness. The project will last for three years and can be broken down into the following costs.

Revenue:
Staff salary £74.5k, Line management £12.1k, Admin support £4.5k, Office rent £3.9k, Survey record inputting £6.2k, Training £1.5k, Vehicle/boat lease £6k.

Capital:
Habitat work £30k, Project vehicle £8k, Project boat £1.5k, Equipment (pc) £2k, Promotional/education material £6k.

Shanks First Fund will fund the staff salary, line management costs, admin support and some of the promotional educational material. All other parts of the project will be funded by the local authority, Environment Agency, English Nature, the Wildlife Trust and the Internal Drainage Board
