Bellever Moor and Meadows – Fencing

This new nature reserve’s 66 hectares include moorland and meadow areas rich in wildflowers, butterflies, bees and other insects. This project will further enhance wildflower diversity and abundance by restoring other compartments that have had less wildlife-friendly management in past years.
Funding will pay for contractors to install 1500m of external boundary stock netting with two-strand barbed wire; 1000 metres of external four-strand barbed and plain wire; and 400m of three-strand barbed wire for internal fences.
Parts of Bellever Moor and Meadows feature high quality wildflower habitat but others have low wildlife value. Replacing 2.9 kilometres of broken and missing fencing will enable conservation grazing to be reintroduced to 6 compartments covering 36 hectares, enhancing 55% of the total nature reserve.
