Biffa Award: Aerospace Bristol Past and Future

Aerospace Bristol will be restoring and repurposing historic grade II listed WWI Hangar 16M, on the museum site, opening the building to the public for the first time for a project of ‘Conservation-in-Action’ to restore historic Bristol aircraft.

Project Aims:

– To open Hangar 16M to the public for the first time in its 103 year history. English Heritage describes 16M as “a rare surviving example of the earliest standard type of hangar”.
– For volunteers to undertake ‘Conservation-in-Action’ to conserve significant Bristol aircraft in front of the visiting public.
– To share knowledge widely amongst visitors about conservation projects and the work Aerospace Bristol volunteers do to preserve our heritage.
– To undertake related learning activities and workshops and present the opportunity for conservation and engineering work experience/placements for young people.
