Billing Brook Lakes Sustainability Project

Billing Brook flows through three very deprived estates and has three balancing/amenity lakes along its course. Due to changes to the course of the Brook when the lakes were created, the watercourse is no longer sustainable. Reduced flow rates have deposited large quantities of silt, and the top lake especially now comes close to drying out during the summer. Furthermore, all three lakes stagnate, resulting in silting and eutrophication (reduced oxygen levels). This has resulted in loss of biodiversity, including bird life.
