Biodiversity and Landscape Improvements at RSPB Ken Dee Marshes

The project has a number of Biodiversity aims:

Restore habitat at Ken Dee Marshes for species including common tern and ringer plover. Common tern have previously bred at Ken Dee but are now in local decline and scarce.

Improve feeding environment and conditions for Greenland white-fronted geese. This UK BAP priority and SNH Species Action Framework species has been declining for a number of years. Some areas around Loch Ken have undergone changes in land management which may be detrimental to the geese and improving the habitat in key feeding fields of Ken Dee will help the small wintering populations in Galloway recover.

Create roosting and nesting refuge for small songbirds, especially wren, which have suffered badly during the last two severe winters, as well as other wildlife such as adder and common lizard.
