Biodiversity corridor for Brockwell Park, London, SE24.

Hedgerows are indentified as a priority habitat in the UK Biodiversity Action Plan and are the subject of a National Habitat Action Plan, and provide a vital support system for local biodiversity. With the advice of the London Borough of Lambeth and London Wildlife Trust it is proposed to plant a species-rich hedgerow along one boundary of Brockwell Park. The hedge would extend approximately 600 metres and incorporate around 5,000 woody shrubs of predominantly native species. There is no comparable hedgerow in the park at present, even though it contains a variety of habitats including meadow, shrubberies and ponds, as well as cultivated horticultural areas and open parkland (approximately 58 hectares), that will complement the hedge and extend its impact and benefit.
