Biodiversity Infrastructure at RSPB Lewes Brooks

The RSPB purchased Lewes Brooks in February 2005. The site is derelict floodplain grazing marsh (UK BAP habitat), consisting of eight pasture fields and over 4km of ditches, which needs to be brought under conservation management. The reserve is SSSI, due to the presence of rare plant and insect life in the ditches, but is currently in unfavourable condition. This project aims to increase the site’s biodiversity and restore the SSSI through traditional management methods, including grazing and ditch management.
