Birch Community Centre Conservation Project

Birch Community Centre (built in 1897) is cold and draughty, particularly in winter, making it unsuitable for many activities and groups. We want to replace 100 year old single glazed windows with double glazed ones including 2 clerestory and 3 large gothic arched windows and reproduce all the original frames, transoms and mullions. We also intend to install modern energy-efficient light fittings in the hall and draught-proofing of the doors. All these measures will cut heat loss, improve sound insulation and reduce our fuel bills making the centre more comfortable for current users and attractive to new ones.
