Blacktoft Sands, Wetlands Fit for the Future

Wetlands Fit for the Future aims to enhance habitats on the reserve in response to climate change and rising sea levels, supporting wetland biodiversity.
The project will:
– Manage existing habitats to withstand climate and tide changes at Blacktoft and Island Farm.
– Use livestock grazing, particularly cattle and sheep, to maintain wet grasslands for wintering birds.
– Maintain reedbeds through specialised mowing to benefit breeding birds
– Manage brackish lagoons and seasonal pools to ensure moisture for breeding, wintering, and migratory birds
– Promote awareness of the Humber’s habitats and wetland birds.
