Blake’s Pools Biodiversity Project

Improvement of this site is an opportunity to progress the
Trust’s long-term work towards meeting the targets of local, regional and national Biodiversity Action Plans. The focus of management at this site is to improve the habitat for birds.

The site comprises three freshwater and brackish pools aside the mouth of the Yeo Estuary where it joins Clevedon Bay. The larger and deeper of the three is included within the Severn Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interes(SSSI). The same area of the site also holds european Special Protection Area status (SPA) and is a Wetland of International Importance (RAMSAR).

It is an important site for freshwater birds and of 51 species recorded at the site, 44 are notable species and 41 are UKBAP species.
