Blaydon Burn – creation of a local Nature Reserve

Blaydon Burn offers an opportunity to create an accessible, high quality public amenity, rich in both natural and man-made history. This project aims to transform the Burn from its current state, as a forbidding area of neglect and decay, into an inviting Local Nature Reserve. The first phase will identify what is present, by undertaking both ecological and archaeological surveys. This will be followed by a ten-year programme of works to protect and enhance its diversity, improve access and create opportunities for public involvement. The engagement of local people will be critical to the project’s success.
