Blean Woods – habitat management

RSPB Blean Woods is designated as an NNR and SSSI and parts of the reserve are designated as cSACs for broadleaved woodland (BAP Habitat), lowland heathland (BAP Priority Habitat) and coppice habitats. This project will protect and enhance the area’s biodiversity and increase the area of coppiced woodland, to benefit wildlife and enhance the visitor experience. Work will include heathland management, chestnut conversion (thinning and conversion from sweet chestnut to mixed woodland) and coppicing. Footpaths will be improved, information boards will be erected on the reserve and a trail guide leaflet will be re-printed.
