Blunham Sports & Social Club – Solar Installation

The proposed project at Blunham Sports and Social Club involves the installation of a 13.86 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system comprising 36 Meyer Burger 385W full-black solar panels with 36 SolarEdge power optimisers and a 10 kW SolarEdge inverter. This installation also includes a Tesla Powerwall 3 battery system with 13.5 kWh of storage to optimise energy usage by storing excess solar energy.

The system is expected to generate 10.94 MWh of clean electricity annually, offsetting a significant portion of the club’s electricity consumption. The design is optimised for efficiency and aesthetics and will reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 2.12 tons per year, equivalent to planting 97 trees annually. This renewable energy solution will provide energy cost savings, reduce dependency on the grid, and contribute to the club’s environmental sustainability goals.

This project solves an increasing issue for the Club who have seen energy costs more than double in recent times, which has placed the sustainability of the organisation in jeopardy. Placing the club in jeopardy inadvertently places a number of key community groups at risk, that rely on the venue. The facilities are a community hub for groups and community events such as:
-Art classes
-Astrological Society
-Community café
-Community bootcamps
-Local Schools
-Blunham Community Engagement Group
-Cricket teams
-Football teams
-Coffee mornings for elderly locals
-Wakes and private community events, with a capacity of over 100 people
-Large community events, e.g D-Day Commemoration event, accommodating 100+ visitors from the surrounding villages, many of which elderly people
