Boardwalk replacement and Access enhancement Phase 2 (Southern Route)

The project will provide replacement of 59m of boardwalk and installation of a clear span Bison Bridge. The new infrastructure will be wider, more stable and be step-free thereby improving accessibility for visitors and provide safe access to the unique fenland and reedbed habitat at the heart of Withymead for conservation volunteers.

An enhanced and enlarged boardwalk at Withymead will offer safe access to those with mobility difficulties and young families and will allow those with mobility difficulties to complete the boardwalk route to reach the southern section of the reserve. The replacement section of boardwalk and bridge will accommodate wheelchairs and buggies (including curbs to prevent accidental run-off) and be wide enough to allow users to walk side by side so that vulnerable children and adults can be accompanied.
