Boardwalk Revival at Shibdon Pond Nature Reserve

To upgrade and replace two sections of the existing boardwalk which have fallen into disrepair, become unsafe and some sections eventually have been become unusable. This need to upgrade the boardwalk has become urgent because some sections have had to be closed. This means that local people will no longer be able to walk safely around the nature reserve to enjoy the views, have contact with wildlife and keep active as they do at the moment. The existing boardwalks are constructed from timber. The timber, that is submerged or has regular contact with the water, is rotting rapidly and breaking up.

The new boardwalk will be made from recycled plastic timbers.
