Bog Meadows Wetlands Project

This project would carry out extensive biological monitoring in partnership with Government Agencies, academic bodies and the local community before instigating practical heavy landcaping works by specialist private contractrs. These works would involve a) deepening an existing pond, b) increasing its carrying capacity and safeguarding it from natural succession c) the creation of a new water channel adjoining one of the ponds, d) creating new wetland habitat for waders and wildfowl, e) reinstating an overgrown pond and enlarging its boundaries, safeguarding it for the furture, f)installing 18 dams along existing ditches to promote standing water all year round as habitat for fresh water invertebrates and g) a large project to restructure the existing Ballymurphy Stream slowing its flow to promote flood alleviation, aiding its filtration of urban pollution and rennovating the public pond withing the nature reserve by creating a new channel from the river into it.
