Boosting Biodiversity at Hilton

Hilton Gravel Pits is owned and managed as a nature reserve by DWT. The project aims to restore the mosaic of habitats previously present on the site prior to willow encroachment. The work will benefit and protect a range of species currently on the reserve, but which are suffering decline.

Sympathetic management of both terrestrial and open water habitats, combined with species specific work, will protect the natural environment and prevent damaging successional processes. Management work and associated monitoring will identify species and habitat recovery, ensuring both the protection and conservation of biodiversity
