Boothtown Serbian Orthodox Church

Boothtown is a recognised urban area of deprivation within the ‘Action Halifax’ (SRB6 and URBAN II community initiatives) boundary. This prominent and unique church – one of only 12 in Britain – with important local historical links (formerly Akroyd Methodist Church), was painted over some decades ago. The creamy yellow paint is now badly and visibly peeling and is a detriment to religious activities. The proposal is to restore the outside stonework to return the consecrated site to its former glory. This will substantially improve its appeal/acceptability as a place for worship and equally, improve its appeal as a community venue (it includes two large hall areas, the largest such in Boothtown).
