Projects / Borders Wetlands for Biodiversity

Borders Wetlands for Biodiversity

The project will seek to reinstate wetlands into the agricultural landscape of the Tweed catchment. Two wetlands will be created with the specific objective of improving biodiversity at each site, while a further seven wetlands will form breeding ponds for the threatened Great Creasted Newt. A number of new breeding ponds have recently been created and colonised but there is a real need to create more ponds in order to establish interconnection between populations. The construction of both types of pond will increase biodiversity, enhance the landscape, and increase public understanding of the importance of such wetlands to our natural heritage.
