Botany Bay CC Community Project

Our project will vastly improve the quality of local sports facilities and have a significant positive impact on the local community. We have formed partnerships with a local school, disability group and nearby cricket club with a view to increasing participation in sport by local residents and growing and diversifying the membership of our club. There will be opportunities for users and their parents to learn new skills by attending cricket coaching courses. Our club will provide a safe and accessible meeting place in which to socialise and make new friendships, thereby building community cohesion. Furthermore, cricket is played by people from many different backgrounds and cultures and increased participation will assist with mutual understanding and integration of many local communities. Sport is a very effective method of providing diversionary activities, particularly for younger members of the community, some of whom may be at risk of becoming involved in crime and anti-social behaviour.
