Bowland Hay Time

The project will conserve and restore species-rich hay meadows within the Forest of Bowland AONB. Restoration depends on seed addition, since re-instating traditional management to a degraded meadow is usually not enough to restore species-richness. We will sustainably harvest seed from species-rich 'donor' meadows and spread it on nearby 'receptor' meadows. We will survey all species-rich grassland sites to identify restoration sites and assess the condition of these sites. We will also improve public access to meadows and improve boundaries. Linked to the project will be the provision of community and education opportunities.
