Projects / Bradshaw Bats

Bradshaw Bats

We will employ a member of staff to improve the Bradshaw Valley for bats, particularly Soprano Pipistrelles. There are several water bodies including three reservoirs, providing the perfect habitat, along with woodlands and grasslands. We will train up 16 volunteers to survey for Soprano Pipistrelles and 4 to conduct phase 1 habitat surveys so we can compare the bat distribution with habitat type. We will use volunteers to conduct management tasks along the valley on a weekly basis. Tasks will include woodland thinning, creating clearings, pond maintenance, grassland management, hedge and boundary work and control of invasive species. Tasks will be determined by survey results and by management plans. They will be centred around increasing invertebrate diversity which is the bats food source.
