Brampton Memorial Centre solar panel project

The parish council is seeking grant funding to install solar panels on the roof of the Memorial Centre
as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability. The project aims to reduce the building’s
carbon footprint, lower long-term energy costs and serve as a visible example of the parish’s move
towards greener infrastructure.

The main aims and objectives are to:
Reduce carbon emissions – decreasing the centre’s reliance on non-renewable energy sources by
generating clean, renewable electricity on site.
Lower operational costs – cut utility bills, enabling more parish funds to be redirected toward
community services and activities.
Promote environmental awareness – lead by example in encouraging other local
organisations/businesses and residents to consider renewable energy options.
Enhance energy resilience – improve the centre’s energy security, making it more self-sufficient and better prepared for potential power disruption. Support local and national climate goals – align with broader sustainability targets, contributing to local climate action plans and the UK’s net-zero carbon goals.

The installation of solar panels will also help to future-proof a valuable community building which
can continue to be available 7 days per week for the delivery of community services. These range
from private hire to sessions offering respite care for the elderly, youth groups, art and culture,
exercise for all ages and abilities, support groups and village events.
Weekly use of the building by:
Day Centre (respite care), Dementia Groups, Ballet, Exercise including groups for over 60s, Health
Walkers, Environmental and Historical Society groups, Youth Club, Gamblers Anon, Bridge Club,
Ballroom Dancing, Sports clubs (seasonal football and cricket), Council meetings, Women’s
Institute, private hire (parties).

The long-term goal of renewable measures aims to make the environment more pleasant by supporting local and national climate goals, contributing to local climate action plans and the UK’s net-zero carbon goals. It’s only by taking responsibility that these contributions may offset the
damage to the climate.
