Breathing Life into Borders

This project will enable the RSPB to create 680m of hedgerow to act as a living boundary to separate our land on our nature reserve. Recently a farm tenancy on land belonging to Saltholme reserve has come to an end and our long term plan is to manage this farmland in a more environmentally sustainable manner, including creating a long border hedgerow to provide a more natural field boundary. Hedgerows create ecological links across the landscape and therefore this will act as an important route for migration and dispersal of many BAP species across the local landscape.
