Bringing the first floor back into full use

The first floor of Jesmond Library was originally used only for staff accommodation, with public access controlled by a door access system on the ground floor. The staircase has open sides, and, while architecturally important, is unsafe for public use, under current regulations. The aim of the project is to make the staircase safe and bring the first floor librarian’s office and staff toilets into public use.
