Bristol Community Land Trust – Shaldon Road Common Building and Community Workshop

To build community facilities for a new housing scheme in the Lockleaze area of Bristol for use by the whole of the Lockleaze community. The overall housing scheme will provide affordable homes, to rent and for shared ownership, for local people who cannot afford to rent or buy on the open market.
The two community facilities are going to cost around £600k and have to be financed over and above the cost of building the housing units. This grant will be used to kickstart the build of the community workshop (approx £200k) which will be completed first in order to allow the residents to participate throughout the development, learning skills and establishing the community from the earliest opportunity. The facility will include an office space from where the residents group will operate as well as a venue to learn practical skills such as carpentry, site maintenance, gardening and decorating, which will then continue in perpetuity for use by the wider community.
