Broadfield Doorstep Gym, Leyland

The project will install robust outdoor gym equipment on two sites in the Broadfield area of Leyland. The equipment which is specifically make for the outdoors caters for all levels of fitness and has low maintenance to ensure good value for money. The project aims to encourage the public to undertake gentle exercise outside of a formal indoor gym setting. The two sites are less than 1km apart. One of the locations is adjacent to a children’s play area and the other on a small urban greenspace. For the first 12 months of the project a trained exercise coach will lead sessions on the equipment for the public.

The Broadfield area of Leyland is one of the most deprived areas of Leyland where heart disease and poor health are reported to be above the national normal. One of the aims of the project is to encourage change to a healthier lifestyle through gentle exercise.
