Brockholes Wet Woodland and Island Capability

This project at Brockholes Nature Reserve enables two hitherto ‘unmanageable’ and degrading priority habitats (1. Open Mosaic, 2. Wet Woodland) to be brought into management through injection of resource and equipment from LCF funding (enabling access across very wet and undulating terrain, winching felled materials out of lake edges, towing flail mower). Habitat remediation commences winter 2022-23, developing effective methodologies as a project, then repeating each winter thereafter. Purchased equipment also enables more effective and extensive Lowland Woodland and Lowland Meadow management throughout the Reserve (facilitating access, winching and towing of felled trees for ash die back management, and towing flail for meadow rush removal), again meeting Management Plan targets.
