Broken Scar and Tees Cottage Pumping Station

River Tees Rediscovered is a large scale strategic environmental renewal project working along the length of the river. The project aims to link local communities to their heritage and the environment. Broken Scar and The Tees Cottage Pumping Station are sites of historical significance being built in 1849. Tees Cottage Pumping Station is a Victorian pumping station on the Tees to provide drinking water for Darlington with Broken Scar being the site for the wear and recreational park. Tees Cottage Pumping Station is a Scheduled Ancient Monument housing two completely original pumping engines in working order The sites are supported by a friends of group who undertake significant maintenance of both the Broken Scar site and the Pumping Station. The funding would allow greater interpretation and signage at both sites, interactive education resources, improved access and an increase in volunteer recruitment and community participation.
