Brook to the Future

This project will create 3ha of habitat and more than 1km of stream restoration. The project will involve practical work on the Cramfit Brook, a tributary of the River Idle, creating a more natural and diverse multi-stage river channel to benefit a range of species. The project will have the overarching aim of involving the local community in this site, providing an opportunity to put people in contact with their natural environment. The Yorkshire wildlife Trust, working in partnership with The Conservation Volunteers, have identified opportunities to create wetland habitats increasing the diversity of wildlife. The project has been developed with the Idle Catchment Partnership to improve water quality by creating a meandering stream capable of reducing pollutants which currently have a negative impact on the stream’s wildlife. This is the first project of its kind in the area and will demonstrate a new way of working with wildlife, encouraging the local community to get involved.
