Broomhill Flash Wings Across The Ings (Dearne Valley NIA)

Dearne Valley Green Heart Nature Improvement Area (NIA) in the centre of the former South Yorkshire coalfield, is one of only 12 landscape-scale partnership projects across England – created by Defra and Natural England – to improve landscapes for people and nature through restoring, expanding and joining up wildlife-rich areas. Broomhill Flash is one of the key local wildlife havens (60 acre meadows and wetland) contributing to the importance of this NIA as a whole. A former Wildlife Trust site, the future of the reserve is being secured through land purchase by Garganey Trust and construction of a major new hide, but appreciation of the wider site by the general public is limited to a small car park. This next phase of the vision will build on learning and achievements (NIA & HLF) to unlock a hidden gem for locals and visitors to access and appreciate the site and its wildlife.
