Projects / Brownfield Estate Community Garden

Brownfield Estate Community Garden

Local residents, Poplar HARCA and Groundwork have been working together to create a demonstration project to show how an old building can be retro fitted with environmentally friendly technology, and we are working on the Brownfield community cabin, part of the 1970’s Goldfinger designed Brownfield estate.
The community building has an enclosed garden – almost all covered in tarmac, see photos. The aim of this project is to work with young people and the Estate Board to extend the demonstration of environmental technology into the garden, and make it a fun, usable and safe community space.
The local Duke of Edinburgh Group already work with older people on a small garden nearby, but actually need more space, and are keen to do more garden/ art/ community work.
The Estate Board are keen to see an unused building/ outdoor yard brought into use, and previous work has installed some small planters, but these are not enough for the space.
