Bures Mill Fish Pass

The River Stour at Bures has been bypassed by a Mill Race for approx 250m and is mostly just a relic ditch with occasional pools of standing water.
The Bures Mill Automatic Barrier prevents the movement of animals upstream and is totally impassable to eels and other fish seeking inland spawning grounds.
Eels (BAP species) are declining across Britain, partly due artificial flood defences and dams, and are a major source of food for otters.
The original meander of the River Stour will be reconnected, acting as an additional low flow feature around the flood defence barrier.
