Burledge Hill Biodiversity Project

Avon Wildlife Trust would like to install a permanent water supply at Burledge Hill nature reserve. This will allow an appropriate grazing regime to be set up as part of a managment plan for the site, to manage it for its biodiversity interest. The site is an important concentration of neutral grassland in the Avon area and is designated as a SSSI and SNCI.

The site forms part of the larger Burledge Sidelands and Meadows SSSI – a total of 12 Avon BAP species have been recorded on the reserve, 3 of which are UK BAP listed species. The site demonstrates a greater degree of structure and species composition than any current neutral SSSI in the area, and also supports calcarous grassland, secondary woodland and scrub.

Neutral grassland is targetted within the national Lowland Meadows Action Plan, and the habitat has its own Biodiveristy Action Plan.
