Bury St Edmunds – The Centre

The Centre is a Grade 2 Listed Building, built of brick in 1841 and extended in the latter part of the nineteenth century. For 130 years, it was used as an infant / junior school for young children in Bury St Edmunds. When the school closed in 1972, ownership of the building was vested in the Official Custodian on behalf of the St John’s School Centre Trust, SJSCT (Registered Charity No 1102207).
The Centre project would like to develop an independent community centre. Planned improvements to the building include a more flexible layout, a central shared kiosk kitchen.
Improvements to roof, gables, walls, ceilings, windows and floors.
New energy efficient heating, insulation and secondary glazing-
