Butterfly Conservation: Prees Heath Common Reserve

This project will create and improve wildlife habitats on the Prees Heath nature reserve in Shropshire, restoring 24 hectares of heathland habitat for the silver-studded Blue butterfly, including creation of species-rich grassland; harvesting of seed to use in re-establishing new heathland; over-seeding existing heathland areas with native grasses; spraying and mowing to control invasive weeds and allow the establishment of seeded heathland and grassland; organisation of volunteer conservation work parties and public events to provide opportunities for local people to acquire new skills and to contribute to the sustainable management of the reserve.
