To maintain and enhance the habitats of 2 nationally rare UK BAP priority species, nanely Oak Polypore and White-Clawed Crawfish located in the Calke Abbey National Nature Reserve (NNR). To create a semi-natural wetland to prevent sedimentation and eutrophication of the NNR located lakes thereby removing a threat to the survival of White-Clawed Crayfish. To restore the weirs connecting the three NNR lakes to maintain lakeside marginal vegetation – an essential source of nectar for the many rare species of insects dwelling in the NNR wood pasture habitat.
