Candy Street Community Plant Nursery, Bow - Community Space Creation (008379)

This project will turn Candy Street Depot into a vibrant Community Nursery and learning hub. It will grow plants for estates and gardening clubs, trial low-carbon, fit-for-purpose plant production, and recycle green waste into compost, mulch and wildlife habitats. A greenhouse, cold frames and raised beds will support propagation, while new pathways and facilities make the site accessible. Apprentices, staff and volunteers will gain structured horticulture and biodiversity training, and residents will take part in workshops on planting, composting, and sustainable land management. It will give people from all backgrounds a chance to develop gardening skills, improve wellbeing and connect with neighbours. It will help residents care for shared and private gardens, offer volunteering for those without outdoor space, and create opportunities for intergenerational learning. Greener estates, richer habitats and a culture of reuse and sustainability will strengthen pride and cohesion in Bow.
