Canford Heath House Martin Tower

Construction of a House Martin Tower on Canford Heath SSSI, as an opportunity to support the existing House Martin colony in the Eastern area of Canford Heath Housing estate and mitigate its vulnerability/potential decline through the destruction of nests from homeowners.
The installation will be a stout creosoted telecoms pole (~8m with 2m in ground) with housing for approx. 20 house martin cups, the roof of which will be fibre glass covered FSC plywood. Educational material will also form part of the project to improve local support of the birds and their habitats.
The tower will be visible by many thousands of commuters along Canford Heath Road, raising the profile of such innovative species recovery projects along with associated comms.
