Carr House meadow improvements

Carr House Meadows nature reserve consists of fourteen small fields of a type which were once a common sight in the British countryside but are now no longer, small wildflower-rich fields bounded by thick species-rich hedgerows or heritage drystone walls. The site teems with wildlife; butterflies, beetles, spiders and grasshoppers thrive in the rich foliage and the hedgerows and drystone walls are home to still more insects supporting a dense population of songbirds, including bullfinch (globally threatened), chiffchaff, willow warbler and goldfinch.
We would like to carry out some restoration work here to improve the condition of habitats in parts of the reserve, replanting a ‘lost’ hedgerow, improving drainage on damp pasture and removing encroaching scrub.
