Carrickfergus Temperance Orange Hall

Carrickfergus Temperance (CT) is a member of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland (GOLI). In July 2024 the group purchased a former community building from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. Located in the Glenfield Estate on the outskirts of Carrickfergus, the building has been dormant for more than a decade, and has suffered extensive smoke and fire damage. CT aim to bring the building back into community use as an Orange Hall. There is currently no regular weekly use, but extensive door to door engagement across three estates has demonstrated need for such a facility in the area, and there are a significant number of potential new groups wanting to use the building once opened. The applicant has secured funding to replace the roof, fascia and guttering, install a solar panel system with battery and water heater, and fit new windows and doors. Biffa Award has been approached to fully fund the interior refurbishment of the building, which when complete will accommodate up to 110 people. Funding will allow for the creation of two new toilets, a kitchen, hall and meeting room, including all associated electrical, mechanical and plumbing work. Once opened, the building be utilised by CT for workshops, training and educational courses, alongside a number of wider groups that have already expressed a desire to use the space.
