Carterknowle Park, Sheffield - Natural Play Area (008481)

"Carterknowle Park sits beside a former landfill but is now a well-used, much-valued green space for the local community and three nearby schools. However, it currently lacks infrastructure, and has no dedicated play area or seating. This project will create a natural play space that fits sensitively into the landscape, using boulders, logs, timber features and wildflower planting to encourage imaginative, unstructured play. A small number of high-quality fixed pieces will increase play value for a wide range of ages and abilities, with new seating to support carers and families to socialise.

Developed in partnership with the Friends of Carterknowle Park and shaped by community feedback, the scheme will deliver a welcoming, inclusive and environmentally sensitive play environment. By combining natural play with ecological enhancements, it will support children’s physical & mental health, wellbeing and connection to nature while improving the overall quality of this much-loved park."
