Castle of St John

The castle is a scheduled momument and category A listed building, dating from the beginning of the 16th century. It was re-modelled aroung 1600 and again in 1821-22. In 1988-90, the castle was restored and converted to a visitor centre but not all of the required work was carried out. The bulk of the current work is to address building issues, particularly the masonry and plasterwork, but major additions will also be made to the interpretation. The castle is located in the heart of Stranraer and is owned by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
